Alvaro Arbeloa came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and went on to skipper the B team whilst Rafa Benitez was in charge of the Real Madrid Castilla set up.
Arbeloa played twice for the Real Madrid first team before joining Deportivo in July 2006 and then Liverpool in February 2007, for £2.5million, to be reunited with his former youth team coach.
He made his Premiership debut against Newcastle United in the same month, coming as a substitute for Jermaine Pennant, and made his full debut against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League at the Nou Camp.
Charged with marking Lionel Messi he did a sterling job and has earned a place Luis Aragones Spain squad just in time to make the plane for Euro 2008.
Despite only making one appearance in a dead-rubber against Greece Arbeloa was still part of the Spain squad that beat Germany in the final of the European Championships.
Arbeloa is a versatile defender who has played across the back-four and in midfield during his time at Anfield.
