Song Billong Bio

Arsenal signed Song on a season-long loan, with a view to a permanent transfer, on the eve of the 2005/06 season.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had invited the Cameroon-born player over for a trial in pre-season and took him on the tour of Austria.

He did enough in the friendlies with Weiz, Ritzing and FC Utrecht to earn a move to Highbury.

Although Song player at left-back for Bastia in 2004/05 he is seen as a central midfield prospect by the coaching staff at Arsenal.

Song won the Gambardella Cup - for the Under-18s - with Bastia after joining the French side in the summer of 2003.

Bastia reported they would receive a fee of £2.5million should Song earn a permanent contract with Arsenal.

He made his debut for the Gunners in a 2-0 home win over Everton but struggled to make an impact in the first team.

In 2007/08, Song played in the Carling Cup matches but was sorely missed in their elimination by Tottenham.

Towards the end of the season he played well and was drafted into the side, most notably in Arsenal's crucial visit to Old Trafford against Manchester United.

A player of obvious potential, Song is a useful squad player and should get the chance to make an impression on the first team in 2008/09.
