Brad Guzan Bio

Guzan signed for Villa after initially failing to get a work permit for his move to England in January 2008.

The American stopper joined the club the following summer for a fee of around £600K, and will link up with fellow countryman, Brad Friedel, who he will be hoping to displace as #1 over the next few seasons.

Beginning his career in college soccer, he developed well in the Chicago Fire Reserves, and Guzan was eventually snapped up by MLS side Chivas USA in the draft in 2005.

With an impressive first season behind him, the American went on to gain a call-up for the full international side and won the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award in 2007.

As his contract at Chivas was coming to an end, Guzan was allowed to join Villa in July 2008 after being granted a work permit by the Home Office.
