Liverpool signed this Moroccan international from St Etienne in October 2006 after El Zhar rejected a new contract offer from the French club.
Despite being born in France, and representing Les Bleus at youth Level, the striker opted to play for the country of his parents' birth and was one of the stars as he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship.
A regular for the Reds reserves he made his senior debut as a substitute for Luis Garcia against Portsmouth in November 2006 and made two other first-team appearances in 2006/07.
The Forward made his first start in a Carling Cup tie against Cardiff City in October 2007 and scored his first goal for the club, a 25-yard screamer in front of the Kop.
On the 26 March 2008, El Zhar made a goalscoring debut for Morocco in a 4-1 away win against Belgium.
