Left-back Andrea Dossena signed from Serie A side Udinese for £7 million in the summer of 2008 and was handed the No.2 shirt.
The Italian was a direct replacement for John Arne Riise, who joined Roma in the same transfer window.
Dossena came through the ranks at Italian side Hellas Verona and spent four years in the senior squad before heading to Udinese in 2005.
He returned from a season-long loan spell with Treviso FBC ahead of the 2006/07 season and his subsequent form was good enough to earn him a first cap for Italy, against South Africa in October 2007.
